The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4, exceeding all other causes of accidental death. Additionally, drowning ranks as the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 5-14, with more than 4,000 unintentional drowning deaths occurring each year in the United States. Learning to swim can save lives!

Water Exercise is a great full body workout that has the benefit of taking place in the pool. Build strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness using the natural resistance of the water. This low impact form of exercise is easy on the joints as well as fun and refreshing. The buoyancy of water reduces stress on joints and bones, and is ideal for individuals with arthritis, or joint pain. Water exercise is a full-body, low-impact work out that works major muscle groups through resistance and cardio moves increasing cardivascular fitness. The number one New Year's Resolution is to GET IN SHAPE! This year make that goal a reality at the Bachman Indoor Pool. The pool offers a variety of open lap swimming hours to fit into any schedule. Swimming is a total body workout and is zero to low impact. Transition this exercise from cardio to weight training by adding equipment such as hand paddles or fins. If you need to ease into swimming try this 500 yard set with 20 second rest intervals:
- 100 Choice Warm Up
- 4 x 50 Flutter Kick
- 50 Freestyle Recovery
- 4 x 25 Freestyle Sprint
- 50 Freestyle Cool Down
