Who would have thought that watching kids race a cardboard boat across a pool could be so much fun? Over the years we have seen the entries grow from 1 boat in the first year to our peak of 26 boats. The boat race is a great display of creativity and team spirit, complete with the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Designs have ranged from pirate ships to viking vessels, to camouflaged swamp boats and Huck Finn style rafts, with every theme you could imagine. We even had an appearance by the research vessel, RRS Boaty McBoatface! Costumes and props are highly encouraged and just might help snag the Creative Crew Award. Additional awards include the Speedboat Award for the fastest boat, the Team Spirit Award, and the coveted Titanic Award for the most dramatic sinking. If you want to see for yourself, join us on Friday, July 26th at Samuell Grand Pool. Check in starts at 6:30pm, and the race begins at 7:00pm. If you want to participate, start building now using our Boat Building Basics guide. Entry fee is $15 per boat.
